The European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) has developed new template materials on self-medication with antibiotics, which will be officially launched at an EU-level launch event in Stockholm on 17 November.
The toolkit offers advice on how national public health authorities and health professionals such as pharmacists and primary care prescribers could engage with the general public so as to promote appropriate and responsible use of antibiotics.
The toolkit contains template materials and some suggested key messages focusing on self-medication with antibiotics, ideas for awareness raising activities, and suggested tactics for getting the messages across to the general public regarding prudent use of antibiotics and more specific those people self-medicating with antibiotics. The specific target audience of this toolkit material is the active population, defined as people in work, aged between 18 and 55 years old.
