Maciej Kucharczyk, AGE Secretary General:
“Our perceptions of old age shape our expectations. Today’s young people will grow older, and if we don’t invest now in making ageing a positive experience, they will face a negative image of their own ageing process.”
MEP Idoia Mendia Cueva:
“Public policies must address ageing with a holistic approach – covering the labour market, care systems, and intergenerational cooperation.”
Michał Drozdowicz on behalf of the Polish Presidency emphasised the ambition to ensure that older persons can actively participate in the labour market and society. He highlighted that expanding the debate is essential, as social participation plays a key role in health and inclusion.
Why is this strategy important for all generations?
We are all ageing. Today we work, we engage in political life, we volunteer, we provide care, and we exchange with younger generations. Tomorrow, we want to continue doing so.
The proposed strategy, long advocated by AGE Platform Europe and included in our Manifesto for the 2024 European Parliament Elections, is essential for building a society that benefits all generations.
The Europe we want is for all ages!
Creating a Europe for all ages means fostering an inclusive society built on well-being for all, intergenerational solidarity, and the full recognition of every person’s right to participate in and contribute to society.
Longevity should be celebrated as one of humanity’s greatest achievements—not viewed as a burden. Human rights do not diminish with age.
Thank you, Idoia Mendia Cueva, for championing the rights of older persons and advocating for a society that values and supports everyone, regardless of age.
