Independent Expert on older people’s rights to assess implementation of MIPAA

survey icon2Rosa Kornfeld pictureThe Independent Expert on the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons is undergoing an evaluation of the implementation of the Madrid International Plan of Action on Ageing (MIPAA).

MIPAA is a comprehensive action plan that was drafted in 2002 which offers new ways of for handling the issue of ageing in the 21st Century. The Independent Expert – Ms Rosa Kornfeld-Matte – is examining whether the MIPAA has enhanced the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons or whether its impact has been negative in which case the expert will look into which rights have been affected. A questionnaire has been developed by the Independent Expert which seeks to find answers on older people’s enjoyment of their rights and also to identify good and bad practices experienced by member states in relation to the implementation of MIPAA.

The Independent Expert is welcoming input and ideas from regional, international and non-governmental organisations among others. Information collected from these sources will be used to aid the Independent Expert to prepare her comprehensive report which will be presented to the Human Rights Council in September 2016.

Anyone who would like to submit information should take note of the following: Preferably, the questionnaire should be completed in English, French or Spanish. It should be sent to olderpersons@ohchr.org

and addressed to the Independent Expert, Ms. Rosa Kornfeld-Matte, with copy to Mr. Khaled Hassine (khassine@ohchr.org

) by 31st July 2015.

AGE will prepare a note based on our members' contributions, which is why we launched a call for contributions, with deadline the 31st of May, to allow us to compile answers in single document.
