AGE has prepared a 2-pager titled “Gender Inequality in Old Age”, highlighting the state of older women’s human rights in Europe across key areas:
- Employment and social protection,
- Long-term care,
- Gender-based violence,
- Digitalisation,
- Poverty,
- Social exclusion.
This document is a powerful advocacy tool, providing key statistics and recommendations aligned with various equality strategies, notably the European Gender Equality Strategy.
AGE will share it with Members of the European Parliament (MEPs) and the European Parliament Committee on Women’s Rights and Gender Equality (FEMM) to raise awareness of these issues.
Quote

Older women face multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination that accumulate during the life course and impact later life.
To tackle the systemic barriers that they face, we need to design policies that use an intersectional gender perspective. Gender inequality at a younger age translates into old age inequality.
