On Wednesday 18 November, AGE Platform Europe and FIWUK, the Italian Federation of Wushu Kung Fu will co-organise a cocktail event at the European Parliament entitled “Sports and physical activity for active and healthy ageing: The tai chi example.” The event is co-hosted by Members of the European Parliament Marian Harkin, Lambert Van Nistelrooij, Heinz Becker, Alojz Peterle, and Marc Tarabella, and will take place the evening before AGE Platform Europe’s general assembly.
Support active and healthy ageing and promote healthy lifestyles in Europe
At this event you will be able to hear about and discuss specific challenges in the field of active and healthy ageing together with Members of the European Parliament and representatives from the European Commission at a key moment in the EU calendar, namely one year after the new European Commission was nominated and when priorities for the next years are being clarified.
The event provides an opportunity to highlight the need to support sport and physical activity as a full part of active and healthy ageing processes. We will showcase what the EU is doing in the field and also propose future policies and practices to be developed to support active and healthy ageing and promote healthy lifestyles in Europe through physical activity and sports in all age groups.
Speakers will include MEPs and a member from the Cabinet of Commissioner Tibor Navracsics for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport.
There will be a particular focus on the centuries-old Chinese martial art tai chi, which can have positive outcomes on active and healthy ageing. Professional coaches and teachers will demonstrate the art of tai chi and you will get the opportunity to try out tai chi yourself.
Date, time, location
The event will take place on 18 November 2015 at 18:00-20:00 in front of room 5B001 in the European Parliament.
