European Commission’s Joint Programming initiative to coordinate research on Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases

The European Commission has adopted on 22 July 2009 the Communication to the European Parliament and the Council on a European initiative on Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias . The European Union would support national efforts in four key areas: prevention, including measures to promote mental well-being, and support early diagnosis, coordinating research across Europe, spreading best practice for treatment and care and developing a common approach to ethical questions – rights, autonomy, and dignity of people with dementia.
