AGE Italian member Curopoli participated at an expert meeting organized by the EU office of the World Health Organization with a view of furthering the development and implementation of policy initiatives to support the mental health of the health and care workforce.
Entitled ‘Helping the helpers: current challenges and solutions to mental health of the health and care workforce’, the event brought together health and care professionals and experts from Finland and across the WHO European Region.
As part of this event, Curopoli contributed to the panel discussion on ‘Promoting inclusion in the workplace for health and care workers’, addressing topics including ageism and ableism, the issue of gender (discrimination, violence and stress that affect women), ethnic segregation in health or care contexts, and the burnout of working caregivers.
Among the crucial points raised during the meeting, Curopoli points out two important ones :
- the lack of data to make evidence-based strategic policy decisions
- the need for a cultural change in staff management and the creation of positive working environments, based on trust, the ‘celebration’ of mistakes and the reduction of fear.
