26 higher education institutes in Europe collaborated within the last three years to contribute to the quality of higher education related to ageing issues. This work was carried out in a EU funded project called ELLAN (European Later Life Active Network) targeting particularly educators and management staff in higher education institutions. Project´s main result, the European Core Competences Framework for health and social care professionals is now available in 20 languages at ELLAN homepage.
The competences of health and social care professionals need to meet the challenges of providing care and services in the growing multi-cultural world are described in the document. This set of competences, 18 descriptions altogether, is presented by utilizing CanMEDS role model, adapted for health and social care professionals (see left picture). Each professional performs tasks specific to different roles and each of these roles requires different competences.
