CEOMA Celebrates 25 Years and Honors AGE with Special Award

CEOMA recognised individuals for their significant contributions, and AGE was presented with a special award. Maria Petkova, our Vice-President, accepted the award during the ceremony.

AGE’s Spanish member, CEOMA (Confederación Española de Organizaciones de Mayores), celebrated its 25th anniversary in Madrid, recognising individuals, organisations and past Presidents who have made significant contributions to the well-being of older adults. AGE was also presented with a special award, which Maria Petkova, Vice-President of AGE, accepted at the ceremony.

The Spanish Confederation of Older People’s Organizations CEOMA celebrated its 25th anniversary at a special event at the Congress of Deputies in Madrid on 16 December 2024. The ceremony took place under the presidency of the Honourable Francina Armengol, President of the Congress.

More than 200 members of the confederation, partners and guests were welcomed by José Luis Fernández Santillana, President of CEOMA. Elma Saiz Delgado, Minister of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration; Pablo Bustinduy Amador, Minister of Social Rights and Agenda 2030 and Ms. Monica Garcia, Minister of Health addressed the audience and congratulated CEOMA for its anniversary.

CEOMA honored its legacy

Special tribute was paid to individuals who led CEOMA from 2000 to 2024, in recognition of their tireless dedication and invaluable contributions to the well-being of older adults in Spain – Eduardo Rodríguez Rovira, Luis Álvarez Rodríguez; José Luis Méler y de Ugarte; Carmen García Revilla; Ángel Quesada Lucas; Juan Manuel Martínez Gómez and Sabina Camacho Calderón.

The signatories of the CEOMA Founding Act on 1 December 1999 were also honoured – Ignacio Buqueras i Bach, President of the Association for the Dissemination and Promotion of World Heritage in Spain; Modesto Chato de los Bueys, president of the UNATE Cultural Association, The Permanent University and Father Ángel García Rodríguez, president of Edad Dorada Mensajeros de la Paz.

 

AGE was presented with a special award

We are honored to have received special recognition for our work and commitment to improving the quality of life for older adults, as well as our efforts to promote and defend the human rights of older persons at both European and international levels.

The award was presented by Eduardo Rodríguez Rovira, honourable President of CEOMA:

“Over the years, AGE has worked tirelessly to ensure that the voices of older adults are considered in European policies that impact them, adhering to a rights-based and life-cycle approach to aging. CEOMA profoundly admires AGE’s commitment and dedication to strengthening the democratic and social processes of the EU, particularly in the context of European elections, supporting the EU Age Equality Strategy, and fostering intergenerational solidarity, among other initiatives.”
