AGE’s comments on the CoE draft Recommendation on the promotion of human rights of older persons

The Steering Group on Human Rights of the Council of Europe (CDDH) has given a mandate to a working group comprised of experts from Council of Europe Member States (CDDH-AGE) to explore the possibilities for a non-binding document on the Human Rights of the elderly. AGE participates in this working group as an observer, aiming to raise the concerns of older people in the drafting process. The Secretariat has circulated an updated draft of the elaborated instrument based on the comments received so far by the national experts and external stakeholders, which will be discussed in the upcoming meeting on May 15-17 2013. This draft will be discussed in the upcoming meeting. AGE has consulted our members and experts in order to submit our written comments on the Council of Europe (CoE) draft Recommendation on the promotion of human rights of older person and our contribution has been included in the CoE webage.

In the next steps the CDDH-AGE will finalise the text of the Recommendation, compile a list of good practices and draft its Explanatory Memorandum.

For more information on the state-of-the-art of the Recommendation and how to contribute to this work, you may contact Nena Georgantzi, Legal & Research officer.
