WHO campaigns for ‘Medication Without Harm’

Although not brand new, this campaign, launched in March 2017, offers interesting tools for a safer use of medicines. It targets notably the issue of polypharmacy which is particularly prevalent among older persons. Apart from reports and official documents, the campaign is also based on real-life stories, half of which illustrate the challenges faced by older persons, including overmedication, inadequate medication, unnecessary medication or use of over-the-counter medicines, i.e. medicines delivered without prescription.

Within the EU arena, AGE is working on medicines issues through our involvement in the Patients and Consumers Working Parties of the European Medicines Agency. We also collaborates closely with the European Public Health Alliance which leads a workstream on Access to Medicines.
