Elder abuse and neglect: AGE contribution to upcoming UN report

The Independent Expert on the enjoyment of all human rights by older persons, Dr. Claudia Mahler, will focus her next thematic report to the Human Rights Council in 2023 on violence, abuse and neglect of older persons. We have contributed to a call for inputs on these topics to inform the drafting of this report.

In our contribution we look at the existing legal, policy and institutional frameworks to protect older people’s rights and their gaps. We also cover the manifestation of elder abuse and hate speech, the experience of multiple and intersecting forms of discrimination, the lack of accurate data and the barriers experienced by older people in the access to justice and to essential services.
