Mrs Ruth Brand has left us

Ruth Brand 4 2007

It is with great sadness that we have learned the death of Mrs Ruth Brand who passed away on 13 August 2014 at the age of 85. Mrs Brand was Vice-President of AGE’s German member organisation BAGSO and a longstanding member of AGE’s Administration Committee and AGE expert. Mrs Brand was very actively engaged to fight age discrimination and promote positive social changes and greater solidarity between generations at national and European levels.

She worked a lot to improve social protection in old age, focusing on the difficult financial situation faced by many older women, and to combat older people’s abuse and mistreatment.

Ruth Brand was very much appreciated by AGE members for her intelligence, common sense, commitment, experience and wisdom. She was a model for active ageing and we will miss her very much.

Her spirit and contributions in the fight for older people’s rights and the improvement of their quality of life will no doubt live on in the many initiatives she contributed to develop or inspired to others.
