On 14 April, the European Commission indicated that concerted action by member states and the European Commission enabled to improve legal compliance of travel websites in the EU. 62% of the 552 travel websites controlled are now in line with the European consumer legislation, compared to 38% in 2013.
Lack of information or clarity on trader identity, complaint procedure, optional price supplement and total price are some of the legal infringements.
Administrative or legal proceedings continue at national level for the 209 websites which are still not compliant. And some practices in the travel sector are being further reviewed so as to improve information to consumers.
