BAGSO calls for reshaping local long-term care systems in Germany

BAGSO_logo In a position paper, BAGSO, the German Confederation of Senior Citizens’ Organisations, calls for an overhaul of the long-term care system. Our German member emphasises that municipal authorities should be responsible for preventing, alleviating and overcoming care needs, to provide services for care and support and to connect all relevant actors. BAGSO further calls for the introduction of case and care management systems to develop individual support plans for older persons in need of care. To enable this, municipal authorities should be obliged to forecast and plan for rising needs of care and offer at the same time preventive activities. These new responsibilities should be anchored in a law and funded through regional finances.
