BAGSO calls for better reconciliation of work and informal care in Germany

BAGSO , AGE member organisation in Germany, has welcomed a second report on ways to reconcile work and informal care, developed by an independent advisory group for the German Federal Ministry for Families, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth. The report foresees a model to allow for carers’ leave from work with financial compensation provided from tax revenue. Furthermore, the report recommends adaptations to allow reconciliation of work and care for employees of small and medium-sized companies and to make support for informal carers more resilient, based on the experiences collected during the COVID-19 pandemic. BAGSO president Dr. Görner called for the implementation of the suggestions by the expert group: ‘Care and a profession cannot remain irreconcilable!’
