AGE Position on carer’s leave and reconciling work and family life for older workers

In this policy paper, published as a response to an EU public consultation, AGE recalls the importance of reconciling work and family life for older workers – many of whom face duties of care for dependent family members and grandchildren – but also for the benefit of a more inclusive and sustainable society.

Better work-life balance would allow for persons to be better cared for, carers not to need to step out of the labour market and be better protected, and for society to benefit from higher employment, experience and contributions of carers and better health. It would also support the many grandparents who help their working adult children in caring for their grandchildren.
