Every year on 1st October, the United Nations is marking the International Day on Older Persons (IDOP) by encouraging countries to draw attention to and challenge negative stereotypes and misconceptions about older persons and ageing, and to enable older persons to realize their potential. The topic of the 2022 edition is “Resilience of Older Persons in a Changing World”. The Day will be celebrated in New York, Geneva and Vienna with a different approach and complementary to the overall theme: New York will shed light on the gender dimension and Geneva on the climate change.
Join GAROP video campaign
In the run-up to the International Day of Older Persons on 1st October 2022, the Global Alliance for the Rights of Older People (GAROP) is calling for short video statements in support of its Age With Rights campaign.
The video should be short (2-minute), focus on an aspect of older people’s human rights that is important to you and include a call on your government to start drafting a UN convention without delay. The statements will be circulated on social media to mark the International Day.
