The UNECE and BAGSO, the German National Association of Senior Citizens’ Organisations, invite you to the hybrid conference “The voice of older people at the United Nations”.
The context
Increasing digitalisation, climate change and the ageing of the population present societies worldwide with major challenges and opportunities at the same time. These issues are also being discussed and agreements reached at the United Nations (UN). But to what extent are older people involved and taken into account?
Civil society organisations have an important role alongside states at the UN in influencing the work of the international community, for example through statements at meetings or contributions to surveys. However, effective participation requires more than just time and commitment.
Topics of the conference
The event will look at:
- What expertise is needed to influence the work of the UN and thus help shape future policy?
- What processes offer clues to bring in the voice of older people?
- What are the immediate benefits of international agreements for policies on older people at the national level?
The conference is the kick-off event of the series “An engaged civil society as engine for an age-friendly society: an international exchange”, organised by BAGSO together with the SWGA, AGE Platform Europe, the NGO Committee on Ageing Geneva and the German Federal Ministry for Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth.
Simultaneous translation will be available in English and German. Registration deadline is 30 October.
