AGE Belgian association Enéo seized the momentum of the International Volunteer Day on 5th December to express disagreement with the recent decision of the Belgian government to allow volunteering activities to be remunerated up to a maximum of 6000 euros annually. Together with two other social non-for-profit organisations, Enéo warns against changing the basic nature of which should remain free and solidarity driven. The Belgian organisations mention a 2005 legislation which refers to volunteer activities as activities pursued without compensation nor accountability.
Volunteering is essential to the non-market sector, whose work could be strongly affected by the proposal of the Belgian government.
