The World unites for Parkinson’s next 11 April!

On April 11, 2017 we will celebrate the birthday of Dr James Parkinson most famous for publishing ‘An Essay on the Shaking Palsy’ in 1817. 200 years later, there are still no laboratory tests established to diagnose the disease. This is why the i-PROGNOSIS project, to which AGE belongs, is currently working on mobile application – first of its kind – that will support early detection tests.

2017 is 200 years since Parkinson’s was recognised as a health condition, so this World Parkinson’s Day provides a great opportunity to unite the global Parkinson’s community. By uniting for Parkinson’s, we can spread the same message on one day all over the world and encourage a bigger focus on Parkinson’s. The #UniteForParkinsons campaign is thus a wonderful occasion to release the first mobile application for the early detection of Parkinson’s.

You used to donate blood? Now you can donate data!

People that will download the application will be engaged in a large-scale data collection study that will permit to develop algorithms able to detect behavioural changes relating to Parkinson’s. Eventually, a tool will be created that will screen for Parkinson’s in daily living and lead to an early diagnosis with the help of your doctor. The app will be available (currently for Android devices only) from the Google Play Store in Germany, Greece and the UK. You are living in one of these countries? Join one of our local events.
