Rights of older people – HelpAge campaigns for a wide mobilisation for a UN Convention

From 25 January to 5 February HelpAge International launched a two-week campaign in order to mobilise support in favour of a United Nations convention on older people’s rights.

The objective of the #ItsAboutRights digital campaign is three-fold:

  1. Promote new ways of talking and thinking about a UN convention based on the best evidence available about what is effective,
  2. Raise awareness of how older people’s rights have been affected by the pandemic, bringing to life real human stories,
  3. Encourage more people in the ageing community to advocate for a UN convention with the help of HelpAge’s new “It’s about rights” toolkit. This toolkit is designed to help make a case for older people’s rights and a UN convention and influence governments in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A second stage of the campaign will start again in March before the meeting of the UN Open-ended Working Group on Ageing, when key discussions on older people’s rights will take place.
