EU Council endorses report on adequate social protection for long-term care needs in an ageing society

On 19-20 June the EU Council of Employment, Social Policy and Health Ministers met in Luxembourg to discuss the regulatory frameworks, economic crisis and health care, uprising challenges and to endorse the report on social protection for long-term care needs in an ageing society.

The report, prepared by the Commission and the Social Protection Committee, underlines the growing gap between the need for long-term care and the availability of care, and outlines the need to clarify the common objectives, how to support Member States and its efforts more effectively, and how to decrease the risk of dependency on LTC and to ensure access to affordable care. The document also provides examples of good practices across the EU.
