Road safety project in the Netherlands

The Dutch project ‘Blijf Veilig Mobiel’ (‘Stay Mobile Safely’) is aimed at improving traffic safety for senior citizens and reducing the number of traffic accidents in providing educational and recreational activities for the elderly, as well as “senior friendly” best practices in urban infrastructure. Within the project, several studies were conducted on the participation of vulnerable road users in traffic, and a number of courses were developed to help improve the driving skills of senior citizens. A traffic quiz was developed as well.

The website https://www.blijfveiligmobiel.nl/ provides senior citizens with information about traffic safety and many practical tips.

The Dutch seniors’ non profit organisation ANBO (member of AGE) received the Excellence in Road Safety Award 2010 for this project.
