Our member ATDAL over 40 ran on a 6-month intergenerational training/cooking project in the Lazio Region in Italy. The project ended last June with enthusiastic participants.

10 couples of youngsters and seniors (nicknamed, respectively, “nephews” and “grandmas”) were selected to take part in a cooking contest. The couples were made up of a “Grandmother” (aged at least 65) with a passion for cooking and a desire to teach and a “Young person” (aged between 18 and 29) interested in learning traditional cooking. They were guided through a calendar of 5 training courses hosted for free by the restaurant La Cicala e la Formica (“The Ant and the Grasshopper”) in central Rome.

Beautiful Italian recipes that were kindly taught by expert senior ladies and enthusiastically cooked by the students have been collected in an ebook, available on ATDAL+40 website

The project was granted 10K euros from a public funding programme promoting active ageing in the Lazio Region.
