AGE contributed to European Commission’s Rolling Plan on ICT Standardisation

As a member of the European Multistakeholder Platform on ICT Standardisation, AGE Platform Europe contributed to the annual update of the European Commission Rolling Plan on ICT Standardisation. The Rolling Plan looks at the standardisation landscape in relation to the EU policy priorities and identifies possible areas for action and may go into suggesting a plan or roadmap regarding effective standardisation support.

AGE provided comment on the different issues concerning older people, highlighting the role of standards in the development of accessible and supportive environments that reduce the demand on care and assistance for the ageing population. We also highlighted how promoting accessibility through standardisation will benefit society and the economy in general by lowering the disability threshold and supporting an active participation of older persons in the society. Finally, we stressed the importance of involving older users and consumers in the relevant standardisation processes.

The final version of the Rolling plan will be available in January 2015.
