‘My healthy family’ project encourages older poeple in Hungary and Poland to to eat more fruit and vegetables

MyHealthyFamily logoOfficilally launched in September 2014, ‘My healthy family‘ is an EU Project, which seeks to promote the consumption of fruit and vegetables among children, older people and pregnant women in Hungary and Poland. The idea is to get people and family members to truly enjoy the tastes, textures and colours of fresh fruit and vegetables.

This is bieng done by distributing FREE fruit and vegetables and, with the help of well-known chefs, by providing recipes and cooking lessons (alongside information on the nutritional value of food). Particular attention are given to vulnerable population groups in four regions, Észak-Alföld and Észak-Magyarország in Hungary, Kujawsko-Pomorskie and Podkarpackie in Poland.

Key messages of My Healthy family are that fruit and vegetables are good for you, tasty, easy to prepare, and not expensive especially if bought in season. The aim is to identify good practices that can be used to replicate the project in other European cities or regions and to improve future policy action in this area

To encourage secondary school students to discuss healthy lifestyles, four specific lesson or project plans have been developed by the “My healthy family” pilot project. Teachers may use these ready-to-use guides to introduce nutrition and physical activity onto the learning schedules of 10 to 15 year olds. Interesting, easy and interactive scenarios were designed to explore the importance of a balanced diet for health and also the environmental impact of our eating behaviour. By navigating them, the students will at the same time be stimulated to develop interpersonal skills and learn how to cooperate.

The results of the student’s work (articles, posters, videos, photos, etc.) can be submitted to a competition now launched in Poland. Read more on the Polish Facebook page of the project: https://www.facebook.com/mojazdrowarodzina
