This call aims to contribute to the prevention and combating of violence against children young people and women and to protect victims and groups at risk in supporting project proposals which will focus on the following priorities: Rights of victims of violence ● Violence linked to harmful practices ● Children as victims and perpetrators of violence ● Training programmes ● Empowerment work at grass-roots level.
Overall priority will be given to large-scale projects built on a wide partnership involving organisations from a significant number of Member States and offering a true European scope and relevance.
The European Commission seeks to fund projects in a number of priorities linked to the protection of fundamental rights and the EU citizenship, including:
- Informing on where the EU Charter of Fundamental Rights applies and where to turn to if fundamental rights are violated (CFR): refers to information and training activities to improve the knowledge and understanding of the scope and application of the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU and to project contributing to better inform and direct individuals who believe their fundamental rights have been violated towards the appropriate authorities.
- Participation in the democratic life of the Union (DEMO): refers to information and civic education initiatives on the participation of Union citizens in the democratic life of the Union and, in particular, participation in European Parliament and municipal elections.
- Raise awareness about Union citizenship and the rights attached to it and identify obstacles to their effective exercise (CITI)
• raising awareness about Union citizenship, the rights attached to this status and its concrete benefits for Union citizens; and
• identifying obstacles to the effective exercise of these rights by Union citizens in their daily lives as well as solutions and best practices to tackle these obstacles.

International Award to Honour Seamless Transport Solutions
Call for Applications launched for 2012 Transport Achievement Award
The 2012 Transport Achievement Award will honour a project, initiative or product that demonstrates how the vision of seamless transport can become reality. Seamless transport systems is an aspiration that aims to meet user needs by combining various modes, connections, services and real-time information that result in movement of people and goods with minimal planning, effort and cost.
Applications for the Award are open to all modes of transport: operators, service providers, authorities, and suppliers and/or manufacturers, within International Transport Forum member and observer countries. It will be awarded in the presence of Transport Ministers from around the globe at the International Transport Forum’s Annual Summit to be held 2-4 May 2012 in Leipzig, Germany.

2012 EESC Video Challenge fosters intergenerational cooperation
Every year the European Economic and Social Committee Video Challenge organises a video challenge to boost video creativity and the use of social networking among young people across the European Union. The subject is “Be creative and show us what Europe means to you!”. The 2012 edition refers to the European year 2012 for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations and encourages generations to get together to submit projects.
Participation is free and video URLs can be submitted on the dedicated website between 1 January and 15 February 2012. The prizes (from 2000 to 5000 Euros) will be awarded at a ceremony held in Brussels on 15 March 2012.

Pilot Project : All-Inclusive Cooperation between Public Authorities, Commercial Firms and Social Enterprises for Social Inclusion and Integration into the Labour Market
The purpose of the call is to set up pilot projects intended to promote innovative models for cooperation and partnership between public institutions and commercial and social enterprises. This will make the creation of dialogue forums possible and facilitate mutual understanding while promoting and sharing good practices. Call for Proposals for Social Experimentation
The objective of the Call is to select projects that contribute to developing and testing socially innovative approaches to policy priorities in the context of the Europe 2020 Strategy and the Open Method of Coordination on social protection and social inclusion.
To be selected under this call, projects should focus on either
- Social inclusion of vulnerable groups, such as Roma people, migrants and their descendants, homeless and young people
- Quality of childcare services tackling child well-being, but also gender equality, poverty in jobless households, employment rates, birth rates and on long term sustainable development by supporting the development of human potential
- Active and healthy ageing targeting life habits, working conditions or urban policies with the aim to extend working lives and to reduce social protection expenditures
- Transition from education to work for the youth as a multidimensional policy approach combining actions on the education framework, the labour market and families
The application has to be handed in by a public authority (national, regional or local). The public authority has to involve at least one other category of partners including civil society organizations (NGOs, social enterprises, social partners etc), private or academic partners.

EU Journalist Award ‘Together against discrimination’ 2011
The EU Journalist Award ‘Together against discrimination’ 2011 is open to online and print journalists in EU countries who, through their work, contribute to a better public understanding of the value and benefits of diversity and the fight against discrimination in Europe.
The winner of the European competition, plus two runners-up, will receive prizes with a value of 5,000, 3,500 and 2,500 euros respectively. The winners of the 27 national competitions will receive a prize with a value of 1,000 euro.

2010 Skills for Employability Awards
For the second year in a row and for the first time in partnership with Adecco, the European Alliance on Skills for Employability (EASE) is organizing the Skills for Employability Awards, which will be awarded at the “European Employment Forum” in Brussels on 22 November. The Awards will provide the opportunity to celebrate outstanding and effective uses of ICT training and skills development adapted by NGOs to raise employment prospects and improve digital and social inclusion of the young, the disabled, older workers and other unemployed or under-employed people throughout the European Union.
Project applications for the Awards are opened in the following three categories (including two categories directly related to AGE activities):
- Youth Empowerment through Skills
- Active Aging through IT learning
This category refers to project focusing on the acquisition of e-skills and better access to information technology (ICT) for elderly people through teaching, mentoring and/or tutoring.

Innovative policies to support healthy, active and dignified ageing and raise the effectiveness and efficiency of spending on social, health and long-term care services and benefits
This call for proposals seeks to promote the sustainability and quality of health and long-term care provision for the elderly through healthy and active ageing through providing financial support to projects aimed at designing better policies for healthy, active and dignified ageing in the countries participating in PROGRESS.
Projects may focus on different stages of policy development ranging from the identification of potential benefits of healthy and active ageing for sustainable social protection and social cohesion in ageing societies to the design of new policies, their implementation and evaluation. Particular attention should be paid to specifically vulnerable social groups and to parts of the EU where poor health is most prevalent (as assessed by measures such as healthy life expectancy) and where many people are at risk of not receiving appropriate care for a life in dignity.

Call for multidisciplinary research on "Active and Healthy Ageing Across the Life Course"
The European Research Area in Ageing (ERA-AGE 2) launches a call for multidisciplinary research applications on "Active and Healthy Ageing Across the Life Course". The objective of this call is to promote healthy ageing and reach the main target established by the Active and Healthy Ageing Innovation Partnership of a 2 year increase in healthy life expectancy in the European Union by 2020.

PARtnerships between Employment Services - PARES
The initiative is aimed at supporting projects which involve at least two different types of partners from public, private or third sector employment services, and can involve education and training providers, NGOs, welfare institutions, etc. The services to be developed are those which support labour market transitions of the most vulnerable groups of people (long term unemployed people and their transition into work; low skilled workers and their transition from one occupation to another; or single mothers, immigrant and ethnic groups and their transitions into the labour market). Duration of projects: maximum 18 months.
The project should encourage public, private and third sector employment services, education and training providers, NGOs, welfare institutions, etc. to work together. To be eligible the action must include active partners from PROGRESS participating countries and from at least two different types: public, private or third sector. Applicant and partners can be from the same country.
Projects should start within 6 months of the date of submission.

EU Awards: "Living well with Dementia in the Community"
The European Foundations' Initiative on Dementia (EFID) launches the European Awards: "Living well with Dementia in the Community". A group of foundations, composed of The Atlantic Philanthropies, the Fondation Médéric Alzheimer, the King Baudouin Foundation and the Robert Bosch Stiftung, join forces to launch the 'Living well with Dementia in the Community - European Foundations' Initiative on Dementia-Awards' in order to improve perceptions of dementia and to stimulate solidarity at the local level. The overarching aim of the Initiative is to contribute to a better quality of life for people with dementia and their carers.
Up to 10 projects will be funded with up to € 10.000. The application is to be filled in English as the Awards are pan-European and partners are required to communicate and exchange their achievements at the European level and amongst their peers.

First AAL Forum Award
This award is intended to recognize the most promising project of the Ambient Assisted Living Joint Programme (AAL JP) in terms of innovation, human-centric approaches to development and market potential. It seeks create and raise levels of awareness of the AAL JP progress and results from the projects, whilst at the same time highlighting the core ideas behind the AAL Joint programme.
The AAL JP programme has invested significantly in almost 60 projects of which several are now beginning to show results.

Call for tender: Secondary analyses of the 5th European Working Conditions Survey
Every five years, the Foundation conducts a survey to study the working conditions in Europe. Five main editions of the survey have been carried out in 1990/1991, 1995/1996, 2000, 2001/2002, 2005 as well as in 2010. The surveys provide an overview of the state of working conditions throughout Europe and indicate the nature and content of changes affecting the workforce and the quality of work. The European Foundation intends to contract secondary analyses from the Fifth European Working Conditions Survey on the topic indicated for each lot. Secondary analyses are analyses of the 5th European Working Conditions Survey complemented and positioned in the corpus of the relevant literature on the topic. They address (European) policy relevant issues. They consider the perspectives of the actors, Members of the European Foundation’s Governing Board (employers‘ organisations, trade unions, and governments). NGOs are eligible to apply.

In January 2011 the Villa Decius Association in Krakow (Poland) organizes a Grundtvig Workshop ACTION LABORATORY – empowerment workshop for adults. The target group are senior adults who wish to develop themselves in new areas: voice and body expression.
This workshop combines unique methods developed by Polish artists and educators with international reputation and are adjusted as a method of self-development and appropriate for non-professionals, beginners, and amateurs. Besides the training there will be the opportunity of an intercultural exchange between people of different european countries and get to know the wonderful old polish city Krakow by the river Vistula.

The overall objective of the project is to explore the particular vulnerability resutling from the intersection of ethnic origin, age and gender in access to health care and quality of care. The research will focus on: access to health services and qualtiy of health.

Social experimentations
Selected projects should contribute to developing and testing socially innovative approaches to EU policy priorities in the context of the social OMC such as active inclusion, housing exclusion and homelessness, child poverty and social inclusion of migrants. Particular attention will be paid to projects with a focus on the social inclusion of young
people. The Commission would also welcome innovative projects related to the transition from institutional care to community-based alternatives (deinstitutionalisation) in respect of the elderly, children, persons with disabilities – including persons with mental health problems).

Pilot Project on Preventing Elder Abuse
The aim of this call for proposals is to offer grant funding to one applicant which may involve not-for-profit organisations including public authorities, universities and research centres and civil society/stakeholder organisations. The grant will be awarded for a project that will examine how existing recommendations and charters at national and European level on the rights of older people in need of long-term care and assistance can
be implemented and how this process can be supported. Attention should be paid particularly to vulnerable older persons like those with disabilities.

Support to PROGRESS participating countries' strategies on health inequalities
The overall objective of the call is to stimulate activities aimed at reducing health inequalities in the EU.
This call for proposals aims at financially supporting/ assisting national and regional authorities of PROGRESS participating countries:- to improve knowledge of health inequalities, including its extent and determinants;
- to develop/ plan strategies to tackle/reduce health inequalities including building capacity (such as developing structures for stakeholders involvement at EU level);
- to monitor the implementation of such strategies;
- and to assess and evaluate such strategies.

ICT Policy Support Programme: the 4th call for Proposals based on the 2010 Work Programme is now open.
A call for proposals has been launched under the 2010 Work Programme of the Information and Communication Technologies Policy Support Programme (ICT PSP) as part of the Competitiveness and Innovation Framework Programme (2007 to 2013). The Work Programme 2010 focuses on 6 themes: ICT for a low carbon economy and smart mobility; Digital Libraries; ICT for health and inclusion; Open innovation for future Internet-enabled services in smart cities; ICT for improved public services for citizens and businesses; Multilingual Web.

The overall objective of the CSF, of which this Call for Proposals forms part, is to strengthen civil society within a participative democracy, stimulating a civil society friendly ‘environment’ and culture.
The specific objectives of this Call for Proposals are to encourage the development of sustainable partnerships and networks among organisations in order to contribute to increased involvement and ownership among CSOs as well as citizens.
The programme indeed aims to develop a strong regional partnership dialogue between CSOs from the region itself and with their EU counterparts and public authorities as well as to enhance the transparency and the accountability of CSOs. In particular, the project should favour the following aspects:

a professionally operating civil society sector,

new CSO networks, common strategy and initiatives,

better quality of services and good dissemination of common values in the region,

increased support of democratic issues, including raising awareness of relevant matters amongst citizens and public authorities by means of intercultural dialogue

- Developing their national policy to combat discrimination and promote equality beyond legislation;
- Fostering the dissemination of information on EU and national policy and legislation in the anti discrimination field as required by articles respectively 10 and 12 of the above mentioned directives13;

- Better implementing their legislation on non discrimination adopted following Directives 2000/43/EC and 2000/78/EC.

Improvement of gender mainstreaming in national policies and programmes
This call for proposals aims to support the national actors to improve gender mainstreaming into national policies and programmes of the EU Member States of the European Union. The initiatives financed will support the mainstreaming of European equality objectives in national policies.Given that 2010 is the European Year to Combat Poverty and Social Exclusion, the Commission encourages the submission of projects that focus on the development of gender mainstreaming tools in the context of policies targeting disadvantaged groups including ethnic minorities such as the Roma.

Information and training measures for workers' organisations
Objectives of this call include measures addressing modernisation of the labour market, quality of work, anticipation, preparation and management of change, flexicurity, mobilty and migration, youth employment, contributions to the health and safety strategy, reconciliation of work and family life, gender equality, action in the field of anti-discrimination, active ageing, active inclusion and decent work.
Measures which will contribute to addressing the employment and social dimensions of EU priorities relating to the response to the current economic crisis, tackling climate change and preparing the EU 2020 Strategy to follow up the Lisbon Strategy, will be particularly welcome.
Measures to support workers' organisations' initiatives related to the European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion (2010) can also be supported. These could address issues such as the working poor, precarious jobs, segmentation of the labour market, inclusive labour markets, etc..
