EU Year on Active Ageing and Intergenerational solidarity
As Commissioner Andor announced on 11th May 2010 during the meeting with the Intergroup on Ageing and Intergenerational solidarity, the European Commission is working on a proposal for the European Year 2012, but focusing only on Active ageing and not on intergenerational solidarity. AGE Platform Europe together with the coalition of NGOs has prepared a letter addressed to the Employment and Social Affairs Committee of the Council to be sent before their meeting on 7-8 June. The letter highlights the importance of intergenerational solidarity in an ageing society and its very close link to active ageing.
