- OWN organises visit to the National Museum
Older Women's Network, in partnership with the National Museum of Ireland - Decorative Arts and History, and St. Mary's Holy Faith Secondary School has organised an event to mark the second European Day of Solidarity between Generations with a visit to the Museum.
The programme "If things could talk..." centres on handling various artefacts from the museum's extensive collections which include weaponry, furniture, silver, ceramics and glassware; as well as examples of Folk life and costume. - Conference for setting up an intergenerational cooperation movement
The programme committee of the traditional Festival of the Third Age, organised every autumn in Slovenia, intends to collect experience and findings to date and further promote intergenerational tolerance, solidarity and a society for all generations. With a view to marking 29 April, the European Day of Intergenerational Solidarity, a conference for setting up an intergenerational cooperation movement will be held on 6 May 2010 in Štih Hall, Cankarjev dom Cultural and Congress Centre, Ljubljana.
Numerous governmental and non-governmental organisations and individuals are engaged in the area of intergenerational cooperation in Slovenia. Their endeavours and activities frequently go unnoticed. The organisers are convinced that integration of all players involved in the strengthening of intergenerational cooperation in Slovenia would bring about a quality shift in this area and, above all, contribute to raising awareness. The setting up of the intergenerational solidarity movement is a logical continuation of activities to date.
All institutions, organisations and individuals are invited to join the intergenerational cooperation movement.
In addition to setting up the movement, one of the aims of the conference is to adopt a Charter on the intergenerational cooperation movement in Slovenia. The Charter would provide the basis for future integration of all agents involved in the area of intergenerational cooperation. Together they would form a movement aimed at promoting intergenerational coexistence and solidarity, which must become the most important values of the society of tomorrow.
The honorary patron of the conference is the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Dr Danilo Türk.

- The Long-Term Care Act; a decisive step towards the development of intergenerational solidarity in Slovenia
In honour of European Day of Solidarity between Generations, April 29, the Anton Trstenjak Institute of gerontology and intergenerational relations is organising an event entitled: The Long-Term Care Act; a decisive step towards the development of intergenerational solidarity in Slovenia.
The institute is sure that all solutions relating to the ageing of the population should be sought through the strengthening of intergenerational solidarity. Intergenerational solidarity provides the basis for a safe future for all generations in Slovenia and Europe. In Slovenia, the Long-Term Care Act and insurance based on solidarity are under preparation and expected to be adopted shortly; the event will therefore be entirely devoted to in-depth discussion on intergenerational solidarity in long-term care. The adoption of the act will be, in the long-term, an important achievement in this field.
The event will take place on Friday, 23 April 2010, at the premises of the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia in Ljubljana. It will be attended by all who are most responsible for intergenerational solidarity and its public systems in Slovenia: both parent ministries (the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs and the Ministry of Health), the Ministry of Education and Sport (responsible for education on intergenerational solidarity), the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia and many others. The event is organised in partnership with the umbrella European organisation, AGE Platform Europe.
The event will be held in the premises of the Health Insurance Institute of Slovenia, Miklošičeva 24, Ljubljana.

Guides and Scouts' involvement
Active co-operation between young people and adults is part of the Girl Guide/Girl Scout educational method. Girl Guiding/Girl Scouting brings together young people and adults in a situation where both are volunteers and recognize that they can lean from each other.ZSKSS Zdruzenje Slovenskih Katoliskih Skavtinj In Skavtov – the Slovene Catholic Girl Guides and Boy Scouts Association and a member organization of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts has joined as a partner in an EU project called »Intergenerational cooperation and solidarity« taking place between 2009 and 2013 in Slovenia.
Its vision is to develop the potential for creating intergenerational solidarity and to find joint interests and practices in different youth organizations in Slovenia in the field of intergenerational cooperation. The knowledge gathered through several micro projects and through the work of a special study group will be collected, verified and made accessible to anyone in different publications and on a project web page, to provide added value to social development at local, national and European level.
ZSKSS and the partners in the project will train individuals to create a culture of tolerance, respect and dialog between generations. Already three training camps called “young for the younger” have taken place and now they are preparing their members from 17 to 25 years to visit older people in different towns around Slovenia. Similar micro-projects are planned for 2011 following specialized training in intergenerational communication.
