Annual Convention on the European Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion
Launched in 2010, the European Platform against Poverty and Social Exclusion (Platform) is part of the Europe 2020 strategy for smart, sustainable and inclusive growth. Although combating poverty and social exclusion is mainly the responsibility of national governments, the Platform looks to play a coordinating role among national social inclusion policies by identifying best practices and promoting mutual learning, setting up EU-wide rules, and making funds available to support fight against poverty and promotion of social cohesion.

During the Convention, AGE together with other stakeholders (Association Internationale de la Mutualité, Committee of the Regions, European Local Inclusion and Social Action Network and ENSA, Eurocommerce, Eurofound, European Centre for Social Welfare Policy and Research, and European Women’s Lobby) organised a workshop ‘Fighting poverty and social exclusion of older people’ in order to to discuss how best guarantee that national social inclusion policies take full account of the specificity of poverty and social exclusion in old age.
At this worksop, we presented a series of examples of good practice from local level on fighting poverty and social exclusion of older people.
Please also see the final conclusions from the above workshops which were drafted jointly by the European Commission and AGE Platform Europe.
