General background

 

This Report was drafted by a group of independent experts convened by Commissioner Vladimir Spidla in February 2009 to address the issues of institutional care reform in their complexity.

Discussion paper produced for Swedish Presidency Conference on Healthy and Dignified Ageing, September 2009

Commission for Social Development acting as the preparatory committee for the Second World Assembly on Ageing

July 2009 - The present report is submitted in response to General Assembly resolution 63/151. The main focus of the report is the promotion and protection of human rights as they pertain to older persons in the context of the implementation of international legal and policy instruments as well as national action.

 

Charters

 

This national charter was published by the the German Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women, and Youth and the German Federal Ministry of Health in 2007.

First produced by the Fondation Nationale de Gérontologie, as the ’Charte des droits et libertés de la personne âgée dépendante’ in 1997, this charter was revised in 2007.

Charter produced by EURAG, the European Federation of Older Persons, in 2005

Charter developed in may 2010 ; an  explaining guide is being developed at the moment.

The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was adopted and proclaimed by the General Assembly of the United Nations on December 10th 1948.

The European Union Charter of Fundamental Rights sets out in a single text, for the first time in the European Union's history, the whole range of civil, political, economic and social rights of European citizens and all persons resident in the EU.
