EuroHealthNet supports the 2012 European Year for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations. Today, in this context, EuroHealthNet launches its new website: www.healthyageing.eu.
This website is dedicated to raising awareness of healthy ageing within the context of the EY 2012, especially the important role health promotion plays, in contributing to a healthier, more active EU population for the future. The new website will highlight key factors such as, promoting healthy diets, physical activities, social relations and meaningful activities necessary for ageing healthily throughout a person’s life. It will showcase a number of local, regional and national projects dedicated to promoting older peoples health while also identifying a number of EU policy initiatives and instruments that are available to promote healthy ageing.

After developing a European Charter of the rights and responsibilities of older people in need of long-term care and assistance and its accompanying guide (more information: www.age-platform.eu/en/daphne) as part of the EU funded EUSTACEA project, AGE has been coordinating the two-year running project “WeDO: A European Partnership for the Wellbeing and Dignity of Older people”, since December 2010. The project, which gathers 18 partners from 12 different member states, seeks to promote quality long-term care standards within the EU.
The WeDo project has just launched its new website: http://www.wedo-partnership.eu/
The WeDo website will provide a wealth of useful information and examples of good practices on the topic of long-term care and the fight against elder abuse. You can also register to the project's monthly newsletter.

The annual European antibiotic awareness day, run by the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDPC) aims to raise awareness about the increasing threat to public health of antibiotic resistance within the EU and about how to use antibiotics responsibly.
The initiative, targeted at the general public and the primary care providers, seeks to support efforts at national level to reduce unnecessary antibiotic use in hospitals through the development and dissemination of educational materials promoting prudent antibiotic use.

AGE Platform Europe submitted a contribution to the consultation of the European Commission on the eHealth Action Plan 2012-2020.
By end 2011, the European Commission will deliver a second eHealth Action Plan which will provides an opportunity to consolidate the actions which have been addressed to date, take them further where possible and provide a long term vision for eHealth in Europe, in the context of the EU 2020 Strategy, the Digital Agenda for Europe as well as Innovation Union and its associated European Innovation Partnership on Active and Healthy Ageing.

AGE contributed to the consultation open by the European Commission on the revision of the clinical trials directive. Considering the recent development regarding geriatric medicines, particular the decision made by the European Medicine Agency (EMA) in February 2011 to launch a geriatric medicines strategy, AGE Platform Europe considered this revision of the directive has an opportunity to support this new strategy and decided to focus its contribution on the need to improve participation of older people in clinical trials of medicines commonly used for geriatric patients.
