At the end of August AGE responded to the public consultation on e-Inclusion strategy. In its response AGE highlighted that for older people to enjoy equal access to information society products and services must not only be available and accessible they must also be affordable. This is particularly important for the growing number of older people, who have low incomes and are at risk of poverty.
The relatively high cost of ICT products and services is still a major barrier for many very old people, whose limited resources are insufficient to cover their increasing dependency needs. There are many actions that can be taken to address these types of barriers: public policies can provide financial support to help reduce purchase and connection costs and the industry can apply flexible and creative pricing strategies and mainstream the Design for All principle.
