On the 7 November 2011, the Intergroup hold a meeting on 'Towards the success of the European Year 2012 on Active ageing and solidarity between generations'. The event was hosted by Kartika Liotard, MEP and co-chair of the Intergroup on Ageing and intergenerational solidarity, and was chaired by Mr. Heinz K. Becker, MEP and member of the Intergroup. On the 21 September 2011, the Intergroup hold a meeting on 'Enhancing the participation of older volunteers through the 2011 European Year of Volunteering (EYV2011)'. The event was chaired and hosted by Jean Lambert, MEP and cochair of the Intergroup. More information is available here.
On the 15 June 2011, world awareness day against elder abuse, the Intergroup on Ageing and Intergenerational solidarity hosted a meeting on 'Improving medicines for older people'. On the 16th March 2011, the Intergroup Bureau met to discuss the activities to be developed for 2011. The new Strategy on Geriatric medicines of EMA, the European Year 2011 on volunteering, the White paper on pensions and a staff working paper on long-term care will give opportunities for the Intergroup to gather. On the 27th January 2011, the Intergroup organised together with AGE Platform Europe, a Debate on the European Innovation Patrnership on Active and healthy ageing in the European Parliament. This debate took place one day before the end of the consultation launched by the EC, to which AGE sent its answer. More information on the debate is available here.
On the 7th December 2010, the final conference of the INCLUSAGE project will be organised in the Committee of the regions, and Ms. Kartika Liotard MEP and co-chair of the Intergroup on Ageing and solidarity between generations chaired the meeting. Ms. Kinga Göncz MEP and cochair of the Intergroup came also to conclude the meeting. The seminar presented the results of ‘INCLUSage Project – Debating Older People’s Needs’ lead by AGE Platform Europe’s members from Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, Finland, Italy, Poland and Slovakia. The aim of the project is to promote a broad civil dialogue on ageing issues – involving stakeholders from all levels – as a way to combat poverty and ensure social inclusion among older people (link to INCLUSage webpage). The seminar was also an opportunity to discuss the issue of adequacy of minimum income in old age from the perspective of decent living standards and human dignity. AGE members have chosen this topic as one of the policy priorities for the 2010 European Year for Combating Poverty and Social Exclusion (for more information, please see AGE Call presented at the official launch of the Year 2010). Ms. Lynne MEP and cochair of the Intergroup hosted on the 17th November 2010 a conference on the fight against elder abuse and the improvement of quality care for older people, and Mr. Van Nistelrooij MEP and also cochair of the Intergroup was here to speak. The Bureau met again on the 24th March 2010 to develop the work program and discuss on minimum income and on long-term care services. The co-chairs shared their views on the organization of meetings that would give an opportunity to gather the whole Intergroup and other stakeholders.
A Bureau meeting (with the 8 co-presidents of the Intergroup) took place in the European Parliament on the 24th February 2010. The work programme has been discussed but not finalized, and the intergroup management has been clarified. The Intergroup co-chairs expressed their wish to link the Intergroup priorities with the European Parliament working priorities.
