  • ANBO Project 'Stay Mobile Safely' wins road safety award 2010

The Dutch seniors’ non profit organisation ANBO received the Excellence in Road Safety Award 2010 from the European Commissioner for Transport, Siim Kallas, at a ceremony which took place in Brussels on 1 February 2011 to honour the most innovative initiatives carried out in the framework of the European Road Safety Charter during 2010. ANBO project entitled 'Stay Mobile Safely' (Blijf Veilig Mobiel) was selected as the most successful project in the category of NGOS (non-governmental organizations) for its commitment to promoting safe mobility in educational and recreational activities for the elderly and to provide “senior friendly” best practices in urban infrastructure.

‘Stay Mobile Safely’ is aimed at improving traffic safety for senior citizens and reducing the number of traffic accidents. Within the project, several studies were conducted on the participation of vulnerable road users in traffic, and a number of courses were developed to help improve the driving skills of senior citizens. A traffic quiz was developed as well. The website http://www.blijfveiligmobiel.nl/ provides senior citizens with information about traffic safety and many practical tips.

  • Project TRAMP - Transnational mobility of older people (in which BAGSO, member of AGE, is a partner)

Aim of the project is to simplify the access to Europe for people with low language skills and to facilitate transnational mobility of older people in Europe.

The project refers to international exchange programmes aimed at promoting the active involvement of older people as volunteers working for the general interest and features in particular the transnational dialogue in teamwork-projects in crafts. The central idea is that there is a product-oriented approach, so that the participants language deficiencies can be counterbalanced by working together for a common purpose. Furthermore there is an intergenerational approach as the older people are supported by young people who can interpret for them.

Duration of the project: from 15/12/2007 to 15/12/2009 -
Funding: European Commission, DG Employment, social affairs and equal opportunities / ENEA -
