This thematic seminar is the second of a series of three that AGE is co-organising with the Committee of the Regions to mark the European Year 2012 for Active Ageing and Solidarity between Generations.  The first seminar on age-friendly labour markets and social protection systems was held on 15 March (a thematic publication based on this debate will be soon available).

With this seminar, our purpose is to raise a series of questions about immediate and future impacts of the crisis on older people, and to collect recommendations from invited key stakeholders on how to combat poverty in old age and strengthen social inclusion of older people, facilitating their active participation in society. We would like in particular to use this seminar to formulate-  together with panelists and participants - proposals on how better to meet the needs of the most vulnerable older people in today’s context of crisis and safeguard the dignity and quality of life of our ageing population. This debate will also contribute to the broader debate on the creation of an age-friendly EU based on more fairness and solidarity among and between the generations.

Our final objective is to use the outcome of this debate to prepare a thematic brochure that will be disseminated as a legacy of the EY2012 to promote change and create a more age-friendly EU by 2020.

For your information, the third and last thematic seminar will focus on ‘Creating an Age-Friendly EU by 2020’ and will be held on 28 November 2012

Intergenerational Schools Project « generations@school »

Keep on going! – Continue to take part in the award scheme until 30 June!

Since March 1st 2012, schools all over Europe have participated in the generations@school competition.  This special project invites all schools to open their classroom doors to seniors, in order to explore how intergenerational dialogue can contribute to a better education and to a greater understanding of each other.

There is still time for teachers, students and seniors to organise an activity bringing children together with seniors from the community, or to share upcoming and recent intergenerational projects.  It is easy to participate and our website is full of resources and help.
